42+F has identified an economic empowerment project aimed at youth ages 16 to 24 that combines training, internships, temporal employment, and saving and asset building. This age group was selected because it represents a period during which youth are making an important transition from childhood to adult roles and responsibilities and are in need of additional skills and access to opportunities to navigate this transition successfully.
A two-pronged holistic intervention has been developed. The first intervention addresses lack of employment for youth in Kibera. Youth ages 16 – 24 years receive job skills training and motivational training and mentoring followed by placement in temporal employment for 6 months, after which they will apply for permanent employment. During the job placement, the youth will save through an employer (CFK) assisted program.
